KEY, BARNES, MAULDIN, DAVIS, AND FENN CLAIM OPENING NIGHT DELTA SPEEDWAY WINS

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (April 6, 2025) – Stockton’s Delta Speedway fired off its 2025 season on Saturday night with 80 racers ready to tame the 1/7th mile dirt track at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. Colton Key of Fresno earned his first Super 600 victory at Delta in over a year and a half while 2024 Turkey Bowl winner Jett Barnes of Visalia continued to reign supreme in Non-Wing competition. Nate Matherly lined up alongside Key for the 30-lap Super 600 feature over a 19-car field. Action stopped on the second lap in turn two with a four-car skirmish, including Isabel Barnes of Brentwood flipping onto her side. Key led the field back to green while Matherly battled Jeffrey Pahule of Brentwood for the second position. Pahule and Matherly banged wheels in lapped traffic which allowed fast-time qualifier Jett Barnes to snooker them both to go up into second position.
Key slowed suddenly on the backstretch and lost the lead to Barnes, but it was nullified as Raio Salmon of Fresno slowed to a stop for a caution flag. Key drove ahead to a nearly half-second advantage over the final five laps for the victory followed by Barnes, Stockton’s Nikko Panella, Fresno’s Mattix Salmon, and Pahule. Panella and Andrew Smith won the heat races.
Jett Barnes led wire-to-wire for the 30-lap Non-Wing feature victory. An outstanding 25 wingless Micro Sprints led all divisions for car count.
Original polesitter Tommy Carroll was called for a jumped start and moved back to the second row, thrusting Barnes into the top position. Barnes took full advantage, driving to a quick straightaway advantage while Lucas Mauldin of Rancho Murieta battled with fast-time qualifier Jeffrey Pahule, Jr. for second. Pahule used a lap 14 restart to nab the second position. Pahule tracked down Barnes as the leaders approached lapped traffic, showing his nose on several occasions before going up in smoke in a fiery engine failure on lap 23.
Despite multiple subsequent restarts for spins and flips, Barnes led the final seven laps for the opening night victory. Mauldin, Panella, Austin Stone, and TK O’Brien rounded out the top-five. Pahule, Jarrett Heimlich, and Barnes won the heat races while Justin Johnson won the B-Main.
15 young drivers participated in the 25-lap Restricted feature. Bryson Sozinho of Hanford and Kourtney Baker of La Crescenta were the front row starters. Third starting Briggs Davis of Manteca, a former Jr. Sprints champion at Delta Speedway, drove into the lead by lap three. Brodie Copeland of Los Banos finished second while Visalia’s Aubri Huckleberry was the highest finisher of the numerous female contenders in third. Sozinho and Baker rounded out the top-five. Fast-time qualifier Maya Mauldin finished seventh. Davis and Baker won the heat races.
Kaiden Gowen of Watsonville led the inaugural points paying lap for the Stock A-Class to kick off their 25-lap feature. Gowen then tagged the backstretch wall and spun into turn three, surrendering the lead on lap eight. Former Restricted track champion Lucas Mauldin assumed the lead and never relinquished it for the inaugural victory. Fast-time qualifier Landon Henry charged to second place at the line followed by Jackson Tardiff of Vacaville, Kyle Fernandez of Tracy, and Cole Frerichs of Wheatland. Clay Mibach of Placerville and Fernandez won the heat races.
Delta Speedway’s youngest drivers raced in the Jr. Sprints in a 20-lap feature. Lucas Fenn of Oakley won his first career Jr. Sprints main event after starting on the outside of the front row. Samantha Dozier of Vacaville finished second followed by Edward Olvera of Hollister, Logan Fenn, and Blake Silacci of Petaluma. Fenn, Easton Wright, and Dozier won the heat races.
Points race number two for Delta Speedway in Stockton will be on April 19th!
