BRYANT BELL CONTINUES STRONG RUNS IN WMR WITH FIRST ANTIOCH VICTORY

ANTIOCH, CALIFORNIA (July 28, 2024) – 2023 Western Midget Racing champion Bryant Bell of Oakley earned a coveted home track victory, taking his first career Antioch WMR win on Saturday night after a thrilling duel with his Boscacci Racing teammate Anthony Bruno of San Jose. Delano’s Terry Nichols started on the pole for the 20-lap feature with Bruno quickly in pursuit. Nichols held off a furious challenge from Bruno, Bell, and Santa Cruz’ Logan Mitchell for a few laps before Bell took over the top spot on the front stretch on lap three. Bruno followed into second place while Mitchell and Nichols battled behind them for third.

The first caution of the feature flew on lap seven for Todd Hawse of Moorpark in turns three and four. He was able to rejoin the race.

On the restart, Bruno attempted to slide his teammate Bell into turn three. He then crossed over to the outside of Bell down the backstretch to nab the lead on lap eight.

The duo raced side-by-side for the top spot with Bell driving back into the lead on lap 12. Bruno clawed back to Bell before the last caution of the event with two to go. Bryant Bell held court over the final laps and won his first career Antioch Speedway victory with WMR followed closely by Bruno and Mitchell. Nichols finished fourth with Hawse charging back to fifth.

The second round of the 2024 Western Midget Racing Triple Crown is up next on August 9 and 10 for the Johnny Key Classic at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville. Friday’s action pays $500 to win while Saturday’s feature will pay $1200 to win. Both nights also pay points towards the $1000 to win Triple Crown championship.
