JACOB GOMES CLAIMS RICHEST ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY VICTORY WITH CARS TOUR WEST TRIUMPH

ROSEVILLE, Calif. (May 11, 2025) – Manteca’s Jacob Gomes muscled past Dylan Zampa with just five laps remaining to score the richest Late Model purse in All American Speedway history, grabbing the $15,000 prize in the SPEARS CARS Tour West Super Late Model 125 in Roseville on Saturday night. Zampa dominated most of the event until Gomes pounced for the win. Gomes was followed across the finish line by his 14-year-old protégé Jace Hale of Manteca, who also passed Zampa before the finish.

“Zampa was way better than us the whole time,” Gomes said. “That restart, he killed me on the restart and did a good job. It was a good race. My dad is crew chiefing (for Jace Hale) so I told myself ‘he cant pass me.’ (Jace) did a good job and did so well and has a great future.”

2006 SRL Southwest Tour champion Eric Schmidt of Roseville topped qualifying and lined up alongside the nearly identically designed Sierra Speed No. 29 of Zampa for the 125-lap feature. Incoming points leader Jace Hansen of Colorado and Washington’s Evan Goetz had a grinding collision that brought out the first caution on lap three.

On the restart, Zampa drove into the lead and was challenged quickly by Oakdale’s Blaine Rocha. Rocha led lap four but Zampa battled back for lap five. Zampa held off Rocha over a series of restarts including for the lap 38 competition caution. Schmidt and Hale battled for fourth before Schmidt retired from the race on lap 68 with a flat tire. Austin Herzog had a fire underneath his machine as well which brought out the caution.

Rocha challenged Zampa again just past the century mark of the event before failing brakes undid his evening. The final competition yellow flew on lap 103, setting up a 22-lap match race between Zampa and three-time SRL champion Gomes. Zampa had the early advantage on the ensuing but Gomes tracked him down, taking away a three-car length lead. On lap 119, the pair collided on the backstretch and Gomes drove past Zampa to lead lap 120. Hale followed suit into second position. Jacob Gomes stormed to the $15,000 prize followed by Hale, Zampa, Hansen, and John Moore.

Zampa led all 75-laps for his second straight All American Speedway SPEARS CARS Tour West Limited Pro Late Model feature win. Zampa led the 20-car field in the Berco Redwood 75. 13-year-old Vito Cancilla of Martinez surrendered second when he escaped to the pits with a flat tire on lap 39. That slotted Jace Hale inside of Zampa for the restart. Hale and series champion Jeffrey Peterson of Grand Terrace collided on the front stretch and spun into turn one, causing significant damage to each car.

2024 All American Speedway champion Kenna Mitchell of Loomis then had her turn to challenge Zampa but he maintained the lead. Zampa topped Mitchell, Parker Malone, Chase Burgeson, and Ethan Cheek for the home track victory.

The MMI Legends Tour West staged a classic battle between standout driver Jeremy Doss of Upperlake and 14-year-old upstart Taylor Mayhew of Bakersfield. Mayhew snatched the lead from Doss on lap 12. On lap 25, Doss battled back to retake the position. Mayhew crossed him over and the pair raced side-by-side. Mayhew led lap 27, before Doss made a crossover and took it back on lap 28. Mayhew and Doss then traded another pair of crossovers to the approval of the large crowd. Doss made the decisive manuever on lap 29 and held on for the win. Taylor Mayhew settled for second followed by his father David. Chase Burgeson and Huntington Beach’s Robby Czub rounded out the top-five finishers.

Tyler Wentworth of Rocklin won his second consecutive Berco Redwood NASCAR Modified feature, taking the 30-lap contest. Returning veteran drivers Rick Andersen and Nick Lyons were the front row starters for the main event. Wentworth passed Lyons on the outside for second. He then drove inside Andersen to take the lead on lap five. Wentworth’s 4.7 second advantage over the field was erased by a caution flag on lap 21. Wentworth proved unstoppable, leading the final nine laps for the win. Lyons won a battle with Andersen for second. Auburn’s Thomas Martin was fourth ahead of Richard Poppert of Citrus Heights.

Tim Walters of Dixon earned his second straight NAPA Auto Parts Super Stocks victory after fending off 2024 champion Phil Wilkins of Roseville following a race-long duel. Wilkins and Walters came together on the exit of turn two on lap 11, bringing out the caution flag. They quickly charged back to the first and second positions and resumed the close bumper-to-bumper action. Walters led the rest of the way for the narrow victory in the 30-lap affair. Wilkins was second with Eric Bocksberger in third.

Orangevale’s John Sproule also doubled up from his opening night by taking round two for the F4 division in a 30-lap race. Sproule took command of the event on lap seven and paced multi-time champion Ray Molina through lapped traffic to seal the coveted win. Ethan Rumsey was third followed by Lelani Sprenkel and Barret Sugden.

Roseville’s youngest stock car drivers in the Jr. Late Models put on a driving display as well. 14-year-old Kellen Keller of Madera and Skyler Schoppe of Clovis battled closely during the 25-lap race. Reno’s Mia Wright spun on lap 21 to set up a four-lap sprint to the finish. Keller and Schoppe raced door to door and acquired some donuts in the process. Keller kept the lead in tact, winning narrowly over Schoppe and Wright.

Cameron Wilson won the hard-hitting Planet Auto Demolition Derby to close the show.
