YANTIS, BARNES, HUCKLEBERRY, PARREIRA, AND DOZIER WIN TURKEY BOWL XXV FEATURES AT DELTA SPEEDWAY

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (October 27, 2024) – Three drivers won their first career Turkey Bowls while Jett Barnes earned his second career Turkey Bowl and Dalton Parreira earned his third Turkey Bowl win at Delta Speedway presented by Valley Strong Credit Union on Friday and Saturday nights. Jett Yantis of Bakersfield claimed the 40-lap Super 600 action while Jett Barnes of Visalia won Non-Wing. The year-end Micro Sprint spectacular concluded the 38th season of dirt track racing on the 1/7th mile at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in Stockton.
Friday’s preliminary heat races and knock out races set the starting grids for Saturday’s finales. Multi-time champion Caden Sarale of Stockton earned the pole for both the Super 600 and Non-Wing.
In the 40-lap Winged Super 600 feature, Sarale lined up alongside Mattix Salmon of Fresno. Sarale leapt ahead to a two second lead within the first eight circuits. A caution on lap 14 erased the advantage but Sarale quickly built it back up over Salmon and Dalton Parreira. Sarale hit heavy lapped traffic with ten to go and faced off with both Parreira and Bakersfield’s Yantis.
Yantis drove all over the rear bumper of Sarale and pounced in turn four as they drove to the white flag. Sarale bounced over the cushion and into the wall and Yantis seized the lead. Yantis took the $2,025 victory by a car length over Sarale with Parreira, Salmon, and Stockton’s Alex Panella rounding out the top-five.
“It was kind of sketchy there and there were a bunch of lappers in the way,” Yantis said. “I knew I was fast enough to get around him and I was being patient. He made that mistake and we got it done. I just want to thank Bob Panella for making this track awesome for us. It was amazing.”
Sarale and multi-time track champion Nikko Panella of Stockton were the front row starters for the Non-Wing competition with a 40-lap feature for $2,025 to win on tap.
The 22-car field presented a four-wide salute to the fans before firing off for Turkey Bowl XXV. Panella fell back outside of the top ten after stumbling on the treacherous turn three curb early in the event.
Jett Barnes of Visalia and Jett Yantis of Bakersfield staged a furious battle for second place which had a reprieve when track champion Jeffrey Pahule of Brentwood flipped in turn three on lap 21. Yantis and Barnes closed on Sarale for the lead with five to go, in a near identical circumstance as the Super 600 feature. Barnes was relentless on the bottom while Sarale and Yantis tried to make the top work with all three under a blanket.
Yantis showed his nose for a brief three-wide scenario into turn one on the final circuit, allowing Barnes to edge forward underneath. Sarale dove into turn three deep, but clipped the lapped car on the outside allowing Barnes to sneak inside for the thrilling last-lap win. Sarale was second followed by Yantis, a resurgent Panella, and Mattix Salmon.
“I just knew if I could keep the momentum going on the bottom and I could keep my tires in the grip, I’d be able to (take the lead),” Barnes said. “It’s a big one, I’m happy.”
Sarale reflected on his runner-up finishes at Turkey Bowl.
“I don’t know man, I felt pretty fast there all night long. Running the bottom – I probably should have just stuck to it. I was trying to run the top at the end and I heard someone up there. I tried it out but it didn’t work out. Try again next time.”
Restricted competition was dominated by Aubri Huckleberry of Visalia. Huckleberry won one of her heat races on Friday night, won the Knockout Race, and then won the 35-lap feature from the pole position. The performance was worth $1,025 for the young 15-year-old driver.
Brodie Copeland of Los Banos had a valiant effort to hold off 2023 Jr. Sprints champion Briggs Davis and 2024 Restricted champion Hayden Stepps of Oakdale for second while Huckleberry accumulated a ten second lead. Copeland then spun out of the race on lap 20. An additional caution flew on lap 30 when Huckleberry was north of five seconds clear of the field.
Huckleberry built the lead back to 3.120 seconds at the checkered flag followed by Davis, Stepps, Jackson Tardiff of Vacaville, and Johnny Streeter of Galt.
The inaugural A-Class action concluded the weekend with a 35-lap feature with Brayson Gillio on the pole alongside Parreira. Sarale, in a triple duty effort, hounded Gillio in lapped traffic with Parriera in pursuit from third. Sarale swooped around the outside in traffic to lead lap 23 and brought Parreira with him.
Parreira then duplicated the move on lap 26 in turn four to motor into the top spot. Parreira led the rest of the way for a comfortable $1,025 win followed by Sarale, Pleasanthill’s Colin Kirby, Gillo, and Tracy’s Kyle Fernandez. Parreira won his third Turkey Bowl to go with Restricted gold in 2020 and a Jr. Sprints triumph in 2018.
Vacaville’s Samantha Dozier won Friday’s Knockout Race for the pole for the 30-lap Jr. Sprint feature. Dozier put together a perfect race despite pressure from Haven Sherman of Citrus Heights. Dozier claimed the $1,025 Turkey Bowl victory. Sherman settled for second followed by 2024 track champion Heston Stepps of Oakdale, David Anderson of Clayton, and Easton Wright of Martinez.
