RACING CANCELED AT LAS VEGAS BULLRING UNTIL OCT. 16

(May 27, 2020) – The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has made the surprising announcement to cancel the remainder of its 2020 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season because of the COVID19 Pandemic. Notably, the decision will impact some growing divisions at the speedway including the 602 Modifieds, Pro Late Models, and Jr. Late Models. Photo by Sal Sigala, Jr.

Those three divisions are likely to see their rosters look elsewhere including the SPEARS Modified Series where 602 engines are given a weight break in 2020. For the Pro Late Models, events at Madera Speedway, Kern County Raceway Park, and Irwindale Speedway are likely destinations once racing resumes at those three asphalt tracks. Jr. Late Models are tentatively scheduled to continue June 27th at Madera Speedway as well.

The US Legends Cars Nationals on Oct. 16 and 17 as well as the West Coast Short Track Championships on Nov. 21 remain on the schedule. The West Coast Short Track Championships serve as important rounds for the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour and SPEARS Mfg. Modifieds, both of which have been hit hard by Pandemic scheduling issues.

“This was a very difficult decision to make,” said LVMS President Chris Powell. “But even as our state looks to reopen some select businesses in the coming days, it seems highly unlikely that we will be able to have crowds of 50 or more until the end of summer at the earliest. And for us, running these events without fans is not an option. Later this year, we will evaluate racing at the Bullring for the 2021 season.

“I want to express our appreciation as well as our regret to the drivers and teams who compete at the Bullring. We’re well aware that they make a tremendous investment in time and resources in order to help us stage exciting short-track racing. Also, we feel for the thousands of loyal fans who enjoy attending races at the Bullring. We will continue to monitor the pandemic-related issues as we look toward next year.”

Fans who have purchased tickets or stockyard spaces for any 2020 event can get a full refund by contacting the LVMS ticket office at 702-644-4444 or by email at ticketservices@lvms.com. Racers who have purchased pit spaces for the 2020 season should contact David Stetzer at dstetzer@lvms.com to receive a refund.
