MAY 16 CA UPDATE: MARYSVILLE LEADS ACTION ON SATURDAY

(May 15, 2020) – Marysville Raceway Park will lead the way once again for racing action in the state of California on Saturday night, as the motorsports industry continues to navigate the Coronavirus Pandemic. After a successful event on May 9th highlighted by DJ Netto’s 360 Sprint Car win, the 360s return to competition joined by NorCal Dwarf Cars and IMCA Sport Mods. Both the Sprint Car and Sport Mod competition will pay points.

Again, teams are being asked to follow social distancing guidelines and health and safety guidelines set by Yuba County. No personal vehicles are allowed in the pits. Any team member with any COVID19 symptom, including a fever of 100.4 or greater, is asked to stay home.

Although the purses are reduced with the grandstand-free event, thousands of dollars in bonuses were raised by companies and donors for last weekend’s event. Pay Per View coverage will again be available on Speed Shift TV with a multi-camera shoot. Pit gates open at 3pm with the drivers meeting at 5pm. Pit passes are $40 each.

Private testing action will take place in Southern California at the San Bernardino Fairgrounds at Wheel2Wheel Raceway and the Riverside Fairgrounds at Perris Auto Speedway. Fairgrounds races such as USAC West Coast Sprint Car racing at Petaluma and Tulare, and the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour at All American Speedway in Roseville have been postponed, however.

The picture for Memorial Day weekend in California continues to become clearer with potential race events at Cycleland Speedway for Outlaw Karts and Dixon Speedway for Micro Sprints currently scheduled. The two-day show at Lakeport Speedway at the Lake County Fairgrounds, featuring the North State Modified Series, has been called off. Ukiah Speedway at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds has canceled its two-day bill on May 23-24 as well. The USAC/CRA “Salute to Indy” action at Perris Auto Speedway also fell victim to the Pandemic.

Kern County Raceway Park canceled tentative plans for a two-day, competitor only-event over the Memorial Day weekend after uncertainty in gaining county approval. Other facilities such as Irwindale Speedway and Delta Speedway remain in an indefinite limbo.

ShortTrackLive.com will have updates on the Coronavirus Pandemic impact on West Coast Motorsports whenever possible.
