DIRT TRACK RACING OPENS UP IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA SATURDAY NIGHT

Since Ethan Dotson crossed under the checkered flag in a Modified at The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park on Saturday night, March 14th, short track racing in California has gone silent for race events. Besides a few sporadic practice days at California’s privately owned facilities, fairground tracks and grassroots racing teams have sat idle. Saturday night that all ends as Dixon Speedway and Marysville Raceway present the first racing action within the last 56 days in the Golden State.

Placerville Speedway at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds will join them with a Test and Tune as well, with likely over 150 race teams in Northern California slinging dirt this evening.

Coronavirus mitigation procedures, designed with approval from each respective county, will be enforced. All three events will be limited to competitors and essential staff only. The grandstands will remain closed to the public. No personal vehicles will be allowed in the pits and crews will be encouraged to stay in their pit stalls unless their car is on the track. Teams are being encouraged to disinfect their trailers and race cars before attending and anyone who is susceptible to COVID19 – or has symptoms – is being asked to stay home.

Industry observers hope these events can serve as an effective roadmap to reopen the sport in California.

Perhaps the most stringent safety measures will be in place at Placerville and Dixon with each facility requiring a limited number of crew members to attend with each driver. At Placerville, only six attendees per trailer will be permitted entry into the pits. Each person will have their temperatures taken upon entry as well.

The participant limit at Dixon Speedway will be just four people per trailer allowed. This limit is in effect no matter how many race cars are being towed in per trailer.

Dixon Speedway’s races will serve as their points opener with competition in Super 600, Non-Wing, Restricted, and Jr. Sprints. Coverage will be available for purchase on Pay Per View via www.dirtovaltv.com

Marysville Raceway Park will be a non-points race for half of the regular purse, including $750 to win for the 360 Sprints. Also scheduled are IMCA Sport Mods, Crate Sprints, and Hobby Stocks. www.speedshifttv.com will be providing the coverage.

Placerville’s Test and Tune is open to any team that would like to participate.
